How to create a Clone Configuration
Clone Attack Clone Configurations allow you to customize how HubSpot records are cloned, deciding what properties to clone and setting default field values for consistency.
What is a Clone Configuration?
Clone Configurations in Clone Attack let you customize how HubSpot records—like Deals, Tickets, or Contacts—are copied when a user chooses to clone them. You can decide what gets cloned, what doesn’t, and even set default values for specific fields. This gives your team control and consistency when creating duplicate records.
When Should You Use This?
Let’s say your sales team frequently reuses Deal records to kick off similar customer journeys. With Clone Attack, you can:
-
Clone a Deal but skip sensitive fields like "Amount"
-
Automatically set a new Close Date to 3 months in the future
-
Carry over associated Contacts, Companies, and Line Items
-
Automatically set the Deal Pipeline and Stage for the Cloned Deal
This saves time and avoids mistakes from manual data entry.
How to Set Up a Clone Configuration
Follow these steps to create your first Clone Configuration:
- Go to the Clone Attack Configuration Page
- Accessible within the Clone Attack App Card and the new Clone Attack Portal.
- Click + New Configuration
- Fill in Configuration Details in the “New Configuration” screen:
- Name your configuration (e.g. “Standard Deal Clone”)
- Add a Description (optional but helpful)
- Select the Object you want to clone (e.g. Deals, Tickets)
- Define Property Rules under the Properties tab:
- Choose which fields (properties) you want to treat differently during cloning
- For each property:
- Choose Do Not Copy to leave the field blank (i.e. Don't copy the Amount)
- Choose Set Default Value to insert a preset value (i.e. Set Close Date to + 1 Year)*
- Choose Associations - Click on the Associations tab to pick which related records should also be cloned:
-
- Contacts
- Companies
- Line Items (Only available for Deals)
- Tickets
- Engagements (Notes & Attachments)
- Save Your Configuration - Once everything looks good, click Save Configuration.
Now, this setup will be available any time someone uses Clone Attack on the selected object!
*When configuring the Default Value for Dropdown Select, Multi-Select, or Single Checkbox fields, it's necessary to use the Internal Value for the property option.
For instance, if you're setting the Default Value for the Deal Type to New Business, you should input newbusiness in the Default Value Field.
